Getting Ready For Winter

Keep it Clean - Avoid the Green and Winterise your pool!
We at the Leisure Warragul Pool Shop are committed to our customers making sure your pool is safe, crystal clear and free from algae, not to forget correctly balanced all year round saving on unpredicted costs. Being prepared and keeping your pool clean over the winter months will save you the cost of cleaning up a messy green pool come summertime which can be expensive. By following the tips below and Winterising your pool you can not only save $$$$ in the long run but also protect your equipment and your pool. Our basic winterising plan for salt water pools:

Step 1
Thoroughly backwash the sand filter or clean the cartridge with Focus Cleaner and Degreaser. Ensure that the skimmer basket and hair and lint pot are free of debris. Lubricate the pump and sand filter component with a silicone based lubricant and ensure they are sealed.

Step 2
Adjust the total alkalinity level to 80-125ppm.

Step 3
Adjust the pH 7.1 to 7.4 by adding acid if the level is too high of pH increaser if it is too low (depending on the pool finish or as recommended by your pool builder).

Step 4
Add one bag of Shock n Clear per 50,000 litres of water through the skimmer.

Step 5
Mix 1 litre (per 50,000 litres of pool water) of Powercide 4 Long life Algaecide and add it to the pool.

Step 6
If you have variable speed pump, adjust the speed to low. If you have a Smart Accord system DO NOT adjust the pump or Chlorinator.

Step 7
Clean the cell with Saf-T-Cell (only if necessary).

Step 8
Adjust the control to the half production or 50% setting. Check the chlorine levels for two weeks after lowering the setting, making sure that this is a constant level of 1-2 ppm available chlorine at all times. The product may need to be adjusted to increase or decrease its output.

Step 9
Put your solar heating on winter mode.

Step 10
Put your pool blanket on and reduce the chlorinator lights so that only 3-4 lights appear. If you have a Smart Accord system DO NOT reduce lights.
(Lift & check water under blanket over the winter break, the blanket effects the temperature and chlorine levels of the water and can go green)

HAVING CARRIED OUT THESE STEPS, PLEASE ENSURE YOU:

CHECK THE CHLORINE LEVELS ON A WEEKLY BASIS.

BRING A WATER SAMPLE INTO THE STORE EVERY MONTH TO CHECK THE WATER BALANCE WITH YOUR VIP CARD.

CHECK THE SKIMMER BASKET ON A REGULAR BASIS TO ENSURE THERE IS NO BUID UP OF LEAVES AND DEBRIS.

CHECK THE WATER LEVEL IS HALF WAY UP THE SKIMMER BOX OPENING AND THAT THE PRESSURE GAUGE ON THE FILTER IS NOT IN THE RED ZONE, WHICH INDICATES A POSSIBLE BACKWASH!
